Scottish writer Jim Alexander has just released his debut novel, GoodCopBadCop, which is based on his graphic novel of the same name.
Written by Jim Alexander and with cover art by 2000AD artist, Alex Ronald, GoodCopBadCop has been described as a crime novel with a twist. It is a modern take on the Jekyll and Hyde scenario, where both the ‘good cop’ and the ‘bad cop’ are the same person. This is not a story about a good man turned bad or a bad man turned good. Both good and bad arrived at the same time
Jim Alexander is an award-winning author who already has a stellar career, as he has worked for TV (Metal Hurlant Chronicles), for DC (Batman 80-Page Giant, Birds of Prey) and Marvel (Uncanny Origins, Spectacular Spider-Man). GoodCopBadCop marks his first ever novel release.
For those familiar with his work, GoodCopBadCop was originally released as a graphic novel that went on to win the True Believers Comics award. The novel delves deeper into the psychological trappings, black humour and surrealist overtones that made the title such a hit with readers.
While the novel will follow the same story as the original graphic novel, it has been described as ‘denser’ and a more ‘involved’ piece, with Alexander commenting, “It really gets into the gut(s) and mind(s) of the character”. He has also stated that the novel is the ‘definitive version’ of the story.
For anyone who is a fan of the crime genre, or just reading in general, I cannot recommend Jim’s work enough. As a fan of the graphic novel series of GoodCopBadCop, I will certainly be checking out his debut novel sometime soon.
